Terms of use

The important one is the first one. Nothing on this site is medical advice, and a website cannot look at your arm.

This is not medical advice

Tattoo Standard publishes general information about tattoos and tattoo healing. It is not medical advice, it is not a diagnosis, and it is not a substitute for seeing a doctor. If your skin is hot, spreading, weeping pus, or you have a fever, see a doctor. Do not wait, and do not take a website's word for it over a professional who can actually examine you.

Who publishes this site

Tattoo Standard is published by Penguin Tattoo Co, an Australian sole trader that also manufactures tattoo aftercare products. That commercial relationship is disclosed on every article and explained in full on our about page.

Using the site

You are welcome to read anything here, link to it, and share it. You may not republish our articles wholesale, scrape the site, or pass our content off as your own.

The words, layout, code and design on this site belong to us. Quoting a few lines with a link back is fine and always will be. Copying a whole guide onto your studio's blog is not.

Accuracy

We work hard to get this right, we cite sources where a claim is contested or clinical, and we correct things when we get them wrong. But we cannot guarantee that everything on the site is complete, current, or applicable to your specific situation.

Tattooing, healing and skin are individual. What is true for most people may not be true for you. Your artist knows your tattoo, and your doctor knows your body, and both of them outrank us.

If you spot an error, tell us. We would rather fix it than defend it.

Tools on this site

The healing tracker and similar tools give general guidance based on what you tell them. They run in your browser, they cannot see your tattoo, and they are not a clinical assessment. They are a starting point for understanding what is normal, not a verdict on whether you are fine.

Links to other sites

We link to studies, health authorities, regulators and other resources. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or your reliance on anything published here. Nothing in these terms excludes any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Changes

We may update these terms. If we do, the date at the top changes. Continuing to use the site means you accept the current version.
